Mountain ponies

A mountain pony isn’t a specific horse breed. Rather, it’s a term Mountain Pony Press uses to describe all horses in the Rocky Mountains, a region that stretches from the northernmost part of western Canada to northern New Mexico in the United States. The area is unique and diverse, as are the horses that populate it.

The press

I’m Karen Boush, founder of Mountain Pony Press, based in Boulder, Colorado. I grew up and have made my home in Colorado, loving and learning from horses, if sometimes from afar. I am a writer and editor by passion and profession.

I launched this site to give back to horses and the horse community just a little of what they have given to me—including knowledge, encouragement, and support. I primarily write about horses in the Colorado Rockies, but sometimes I roam farther. I’m interested in social, economic, and political issues that affect the horse’s well-being. I also look at horses’ evolving relationships with humans, other species, and their environments. Thanks for visiting!
